Harvey T. Bergland Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship fund was established by Dr. Yvonne Bergland, retired Dean of Instructional Service, Resource Development and Research, in memory of her husband, Harvey T. Bergland. The scholarship was established to recognize and provide financial assistance to a deserving student.

Recipients must have completed at least 24 units at Mesa College; be currently enrolled in, or have completed a minimum of 12 units in Music, Fine Arts, Dance, Architecture, Fashion, Drama, Interior Design, Multimedia and/or Web Design; have a Mesa GPA of at least 3.0; and have demonstrated community involvement.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Submit a well-written original essay about your interest and accomplishments in music, the arts, dance, drama, architecture, fashion, interior design, multimedia and/or web design. The essay should not exceed 1,000 words in length.
  2. In addition to the above essay requirement, applicants must submit (upload to this application) work products specific to their major. Below are examples of evidence associated with majors eligible for this scholarship. Dance: Participation in performances and recognized recitals; choreography skills; improvisation techniques, dance composition. Fine Art: Recent paintings using varied techniques and materials; sculptures; digital art; and/or graphic design. Music: Recent compositions created; participation in a solo, group or concert performances including choral ensemble; play a large or small instrument(s). Drama: Participation in multiple areas of theatrical production including practical, hands-on production experience, skill in acting, scenery, lighting, costumes and management.. Architecture: Skill in home design, environmental design; CAD knowledge and skills; understanding building materials, commercial structures, energy efficient housing design. Fashion: Skill in garment design, sewing, pattern making, draping and sketching; knowledge and skill of visual presentation, wholesaling. Interior Design: Skill in residential and/or commercial design including home remodeling, kitchen and bath, model homes, hotel and restaurant. Multimedia: Skill in interactive video game development and animation; knowledge and skill of Internet and Photoshop or other multimedia programming. Web Development: Creation of websites; skill in using multimedia elements and Web creation software including Photoshop; knowledge of database integration and management.
