Linsky Family Scholarship
UPDATED 2024/2025
The Linsky Family has a multi-generational commitment to education, civic engagement and democratic governance. A scholarship dedicated to students in the Social Sciences is essential to this commitment as we move through the 21st Century.
To be considered for this scholarship you:
- Must have a 3.0 (B) GPA
- Must be enrolled at least part time at Mesa College
- Must demonstrate service to others
- Must demonstrate leadership
- Must be transferring to a 4-year college in the fall
- Must major in one of the following areas:
Geography
History
Philosophy
Political Science
Social Sciences
Sustainability
Women’s Studies
Award funds will be disbursed:

- 2024: The world looks very different today than it did jus a few years ago. A European war, a waning but still dangerous virus, an attempt to overturn a free and fair presidential election and a continued polarization of what it means to be an 'American' continue to roil our society and much of the rest of the world as well as the election of 2024.
Perhaps among these issues, the events of January 6th, 2021 stand out as the greatest challenge to the future of America and our democratic institutions.
The Social Sciences are dedicated to examining problems and finding paths towards the resolution of those problems. Based on your educational experience and observations, can democracy survive and thrive in the United States or will it undergo dramatic changes in your lifetime. - 2024: Resiliency Question. Please share the following: How you have exhibited resiliency in your life. Specific examples of a challenge or challenges that you have overcome. How this scholarship will have a meaningful impact on your educational journey. - 2024: Community Service. Please share your experience regarding ways you give back to your community, this may include volunteerism, or helping out with family, friends, church, etc. How do you want to contribute to your community in the future? (500 words)
- 2024: Your Educational Journey. Please share the following: The educational journey that led you to Mesa, including what you did before coming here and what made you decide to enroll at Mesa. Your future goals, including what you plan to do after graduation from Mesa and what your long-term career and educational goals are. Why you chose your major or field of study. You do not need to include every detail, but please try to address each part of the question (your goals, challenges overcome, and what it would mean to you). (500 words)
- 2024: Leadership. Please describe your individual leadership style and discuss a specific incident or event where its characteristics demonstrated beneficial service to the campus or your community. Additionally, define what that service has meant to you. (500 words)
